It was a great week away - and it's always like a holiday when you return to new goodies in the gallery. We have some new glass in from Heather Palmer in the beautiful new color aqua - and some Smart Glass jewelry which we have admired for years and decided to finally take the plunge and carry. The above necklace is made from recycled sake bottles and could not be any prettier. There are matching earrings too. So beautiful and as always, one of a kind!

Monday morning eye candy in the art dept! Black coral, by Heather Palmer. These pieces are so intricate that everyone walking by them stops dead in their tracks to examine them closer. So so so beautiful!

So excited to finally see Heather Palmer's new work! She is sharing this with us in our "MidWinter Thaw" show coming in February. These are tiny glass bowls stacked and simply beautiful. There are a few other surprises to unfold with this exhibition on Februray 6, so stay tuned!

We just got the magazine from Israel (and what a beautiful design magazine this is!) with Heather Palmer's work in it.So deserving and what a good fit with the other work on this page. We sent photos a few months ago and I had forgotten about it so it was a surprise when it landed here today!

Her glass nests have been causing quite a stir...a few of these are left in the shop! Be swift, they are melting away....
Today is a joyous day! I get to leave now to pick up daughter Grace from college. She is finishing up her last final as I type and ready for a nice long winter break. We are looking forward to this time.
Oh! A couple people asked how to make the gumdrop trees - so here goes!
Just purchace a styrofoam cone and a box of toothpicks along with your favorite size gumdrops. We snapped the picks in half and poked them into the trees, spiraling up from the bottom to keep our fingers less sugary. Rainer made the stars on top radiating out from a single drop. After a day or two they toughen up a bit so are very sturdy. They can be kept from year to year in a shoebox in a very dry place. Don't ask what happens if they get "damp". Alternatively, you can pick off the dry gumdrops, eat them if you like that sort of thing ... (heh!) and keep the styrofoam bases from year to year. They work just fine.

Thank you all for your kind words and mails yesterday. I am feeling a tad better today!
Lots of updates to the shop are coming... we are updating the entire shop - site so please be patient with us today....
We have had three new boxes come into the gallery this week and as I am feeling a bit better today, I will venture out to open them. Heather Palmer's beautiful glass works have arrived and new tiny art by Livia Coloji from Romania are there waiting for me along with some new jewelry from a NYC artist to be revealed a bit later!

I love glass and especially work that is inspired by nature. Yesterday Heather Palmer from San Fransisco dropped a note into my mailbox with these beautiful works and I am so thrilled to share them with you. She works in both functional and sculptural glass and each piece is not only unique but full of beauty.
Here is her statement:

Statement

I have found that my work almost always uses the repetition of a single element to achieve an overall gestalt. Never a forethought, I find myself making small things and putting them together to make something larger, something new. I am intrigued by this additive process of many small parts. Everything in our world is made up of parts. From the smallest thing, like an atom, to the human body, to the universe, these ‘wholes’ are made up of things smaller, and in turn smaller made up of smaller. These smaller things define the larger whole. This is also true of the more ethereal things like memory and emotion. Our lives and our identity are also compiled of smaller things, all making up our experience and our ideology. It is from this fascination and investigation into the the micro, into the small, into the parts, that I find inspiration.
We are in the process of getting some of this beautiful glass into artstream, so stay tuned to see it in the shop!
