Handmade clay buttons

I have been making stoneware and porcelain clay buttons for artstream and Lucy's Art Emporium. They are all silkscreened and in two shapes - round and heart. Stop by to check them out - they are great as replacements and for handknits as well as hand sewn!

Photoshoot

Photoshoot, originally uploaded by artstreamstudios.

As you may of realized by now, I am writing a book. A book about making art with kids (but every adult will find something in here they will want to make too!) I couldn't be a luckier gal than to have my husband Rainer in charge of shooting all the photos. The kids love him and he and I work so well together. It's easy (hard) work, and the kids are great. Each and every one of them. A dream come true, this book of ours. So I had to show a little peek into the process we are enjoying this week. The book will be released March 2012, so there *is* a little wait ... but it will be worth it!! Adding in here: I am almost done with the book, and it will be published by Quarry books, which is additionally exciting because they are fantastic people to work with! Thanks to them, the last 20 years of teaching is coming together in one place.

Happy fun pot ...

Happy fun pot ..., originally uploaded by artstreamstudios.

Just a crazy little pot I had fun making. It might needs some brothers and sisters though ... maybe they will all be herb pots. I love the idea of them having chives for hair or cilantro!

The word of the day (a long forgotten feature of this blog...) returns!
Here is a simple cheese shaker turn vase. A simple way to hold some blooms in place. Tiny and terrific!
Now where are those blooms....

Jane's jewelry

My friend Jane Eslinger, makes jewelry - and now we are carrying it at artstream. It's whimsical and bold and many pieces are made from copper with a lovely green patina. A few pieces are here in the online shop - with many more live in the gallery! Drop by and try on a fish or a swirl! Very affordable and perfect for gift giving.

In the studio: Lots of clay action goings on in the studio here at artstream. Little nesting bowls made of clay with special imprints and glazing techniques. Everyone is working on pieces which we will feature in our upcoming June exhibit at the Rochester Public Library! Did you hear? Our new summer classes, camps and workshops are on line! Yay - spring must really be here! Somewhere!

March 27, 2011

it really should be springtime...

... and it does come closer, but it slipped back this week. It's freezing right now and luckily I have a load of writing today to do on my book so I can view the sunshine from inside and keep the windy cold outside!
Here's to a productive Sunday!

Students working

Students working, originally uploaded by artstreamstudios.

A quick hello from the studio! Yes, it's been a busy start to 2011 ... some exciting news of my book becoming a reality this year - and working on it with my husband behind the camera -- and the finest publisher anyone could ever imagine. Quarry books will be publishing it in 2012. For now though here is a quick shot of one of my student's warm up sketches. It's just a day in the life! What are you drawing?

Color ruled my weekend ...

Lots of fun and creativity in colors of the rainbow happened this weekend at artstream. It's incredible to work with tiny tools, beeswax, (oh it smells heavenly), and smooth white eggs! Pysanky eggs are wonderful to make and we had so much fun that we are doing it all again on April 19th. Sign up now to learn a wonderful traditional art of Ukrainian egg decorating. Everyone from age 7 and up can try this!

Fun with ink

Just a couple photos of last night's fun with ink. I had my mixed media students working with their inner doodles, in ink. These are mine as I didn't think to shoot theirs last night! A grey day is a good day for a serious doodle session ... These were done with a popsicle stick and some India Ink.
