Thank you

Thanks to all who have written, called and came by yesterday and today. All is well after yesterday's ordeal.
Today we even did a little holiday window dressing to offest the media oppression (and endless phone calls) which has taken over our little city. ... Thank you for your concern -it's so good to know that people are thinking of you. We are hiding out this afternoon, but will be open again on Monday. Happy weekend!

more Summer Splendor

Here are three of Andrea Pratt's lovely fish paintings. Modern, bold and deeply painterly, they have a luminous quality which you just can't see until you stop by.So, please do so! We have had such a great response to this show already - with work selling, my photographs keep becoming obsolete!

Along with these larger paintings, Andrea has created a series (which is selling fast) of original drawings. They are $45 and all about the sea and it's creatures. More of her work to come.

Summer Splendor opening

Pat Frisella and Megan's "with unusual growth" sculptures

Steve Bowersock with his paintings

Megan Bogonovich's platters and bowls

Hadley Hutton's encaustic work
Where did last week go? So much happening in a short time, I will try and recap a little here with photos of the event on Friday for a start.
Thursday we hung the show which really went together very beautifully. A few last minute details on Friday and voila! presto! Summer Splendor. The poets arrived and read in "round" style standing next to a favorite work. We had a splendid evening. I'll let the photos do the talking now, but will be back later with a couple of more posts about one of our newest gallery artists, Megan Bogonovich, and my way too short visit with the amazing artist and fiber wizardess Lady Linoleum from L.A. and monster crochet. I am a little behind in getting all the artwork from this show into the shop, but by week's end it will all be there. Promise!

Summer Splendor

hadley hutton "cottoncandy day" encaustic
Hello all... finally back here in blogland after a wonderful week of making art and celebrating all that is warm and sunny in our area.
Summer is in high season here so we are celebrating it with a new exhibition of summer-filled wonders. Each day this week I want to show you a little of what is to come for our opening on Saturday, July 14! You are all invited to stop by from 5:30 -7:30 to enjoy the art and special guests too. We have Chris Wilhem from Boston dropping in to play some music, four poets from the Seacoast to give their readings on Summer Splendor and general merriment as it is also Bastille Day! Of course, as always, if you can't stop by, all the work will be in the gallery shop later this week. This beautiful encaustic painting is by Hadley Hutton, from Oregon. She is featured in our eQuinox gallery and we are so thrilled to have her work to share with you.

Our new "wall" at artstream

I am loving this case which Adam Pearson created for us. The lights are not in it yet, but it has been fun to hang necklaces and small works in! He made the card racks too. I just love them... am obsessing a bit, but they are fun fun fun. Running around today to post off shop orders and enjoy the sunshine. You just have to do that once in awhile. Today is that day!

Queenthings by Jenny Vorwaller

on our front window now...

jenny's lovely colorwash earrings
We officially have Jenny's beautiful jewelry "queenthings" in the gallery now - coinciding with the opening of {un}Limited. Beautiful things afoot! Friday's opening had me scurrying around so I didn't take as many photos as I would have liked to - but I do like this front window shot and the parting shot right before we went home to "drop".

goodnight, sleep tight! nice and clean - notice lisa's lovely wall?
I had a lot of rest this weekend. We are usually unable to attend other area openings - so Sunday Rainer and I a quicky last minute trip to visit Deb at Nahcotta to see Rose Umerlik's show before it came down. It was wonderful to get out and see the show!
Deb also has some sweet Chilewich goods along with her usual lovely spread of Angela Adams rugs and home wares. If you are in Portsmouth - drop by Nahcotta for a peek at the next show too - Amy Brnger's "May Flowers" are blooming there now ...

Signs of Spring

signs of spring, originally uploaded by artstreamstudios.

The wild bush finally bloomed in our garden, so I brought some into the gallery to add color while we worked on the new exhibit. So pretty, so spring, finally. I missed May day this year. This makes me so sad in a way because when I was young it was one of my favorite holidays. Sandy reminded me of it late last night...
My mother would take us to a hardware store and we would buy an old wallpaper sample book. We would take it home and make paper cones with handles and glue lace and other embelishments to the cones. Then we would fill it with small candies, notes, top them off with violets and other small flowers from our yard.
She would then take us around to our friends houses and we would hang them on their doorknobs and ring the bell and - run!
It was so much fun. I really had every intention of making a few this year, but ah... time marched on. Here's to a wonderful month of blooming flowers and creativity!

{un}Limited fun

penelope dullaghan "spy"

ashley goldberg "smartypants"

lisa congdon "tree #4"

flossy-p "three piece"

Lisa Kirkpatrick "bonsai 2"
Today photos instead of words - patching/painting our large space (oh my oh my!) will take precedence over blogging time. Tearing down a most beautiful show is always hard to do. Extreme Textiles was one of our best ever. Thank you to Danny Mansmith, Leigh Pennebaker, Alyssa Ettinger, Kimberly Lyford, and Jeanne McCartain, as well as the viewers who came out of the woodwork to see this exhibition! It really was fun to curate and I am cooking up another textile show for next year already!
We need to spiff up the walls to make way for the amazing artwork which we will install tomorrow. If I haven't bored you to tears already with our excitement - let me just say one more thing ... this is one fantastic exhibition. The combination of work from these women artists just makes you want to go back for more. Photos on Thursday of the gallery. Until then, enjoy the photos and click around here for more information on individual works.
hmmm. I guess I did write more than intended!

Trees = inspiration

Gosia sent over a note about her sale on her Trunks table/stools! They are so delightful...contact her here for buying information on the sale.
Inspiration from wood and trees seems to continue to enchant people, both online and here in our gallery. Since the beginning of artstream, images, sculptures, prints and full scale installations have been the most popular items to view and buy in our gallery.
Ashley Goldberg's "Answer" 9x12 mixed media on paper $120

Lisa DeJohn

We had a wonderful visit at the gallery, from the lovely Lisa DeJohn and her fiance Scott last Friday. Above is one of her mixed media works which I love - Red Beauty. Grace over at designsponge did a a sneak peek of their home last month, which was a treat for the eyes. Take a look through Lisa's delicate, yet powerful work at her website here. Her work may be familiar to you through IKEA as well. Her blue flower painting was made into a fine art poster and her surface design catagory is filled with lovely pattern and color. Her surface design work is licensed through Lilla Rogers and can be found in such fabulous places as "The Land of Nod" among others. So nice to meet you Lisa!
oh... so what do you all think of the new banner? red is the new pink which was the new brown which was the new black, ahem, so i was told....

Here is one of the many beautiful bracelets we have from Danny Mansmith. They will all be up in the shop in the art to wear section, over the next days, so check back there to see each of them and more lovlieness from the exhibit.

Extreme Textiles

Extreme Textiles: hooray! It's up! Go to flickr to see more of the works. It rocks, it rolls, it'll make you think. Thinking is good - pretty is nice, thinking is good. Both together is a bonus. This show is full of bonuses.

We are still trying to secure the publishing rights to rainer's breakfast drawing... another snow day here, so perhaps some playtime between a little work on this and a little of that.
Perhaps even a little more work over here too. In the meantime, go to Illustration Friday for more hide and seek.

This piece is amazing, lifesize, and full of emotion. I don't need to add words. You can do that.
