"Newness" upcoming

Early this year I gathered three artists up for a group show to end this year. The result was a trio of women whose work I admire very much. The theme was chosen: Newness. Words flowed from that theme. Newness, shiny, tangle, holding, reflection, needle, white. The show will open with our holiday party on December 4th from 5-9 p.m. full of cheer, live music and some really amazing art in two shows - yes two! More on that on Friday ... have a lovely Thanksgiving if you are celebrating in our part of the woods.

A small display in the gallery

The Little Room makes lovely textile items and sent us a select grouping of pillows, scarves and now totes and aprons to add to the gallery. Each piece is handmade and lovely. The pillow here is grouped with a display of the beautiful Heather Smith Jones small works.

All in the shop as well!

We chatted about her work and her projects a couple of weeks ago over the phone and here are the results, finally! Heather Smith Jones beautiful fine artwork can be found here in our shop. Her noticing projects can be seen at their Etsy shop. Keep up with her creative adventures at her blog too. Thank you Heather for the interview!

Five Fast ones from Heather Smith Jones

I thought it would be fun to ask each of our artists participating in the next exhibit a few quick questions: mini interview style. Over the next few days I will post them. To see more photos of the exhibit pop over to our flickr

1. Your name and your business title if you have another name for your work.
Heather Smith Jones

2. What art do you find really exciting right now?
I like looking at work, and am usually inspired by work in mediums
other than my own, especially printmaking, fiber, and sculptural
clay. I also am interested in artists that combine media or use
traditional methods/materials in a new or personal way.
To name some artists specifically: Tony Fitzpatrick, Marco Maggi, Polly
Apfelbaum, and also painter Squeak Carnwath. My artist friends are also a
source of inspiration to me.

3. What sort of day is a good art day for you?
A good art day is one filled with optimism or new ideas or one where
I am able to work through a problem. The most exciting art day is
when I make discoveries.

4. Do you like working out of your normal medium? if so what do you play
with?
I like to sometimes experiment with other media and have taken
workshops in {other 2-D media such as} printmaking, photography and
surface design in textiles. I have also taken workshops/classes in
jewelry and enameling and really enjoyed those as well.

5. What are you listening to for music currently?
The sounds of tree branches, rustling leaves and birds since it's
still nice enough to have the windows and skylights open. Otherwise
public radio is usually on.
