The whole poppy
Poppies III 24"x24"x2.5" acrylic
This is a painting I did this winter in a series of seven paintings entitled Poppies. (1-7) They will be in our Colors of Summer Exhibition opening on June 16. So there they are all brazen and blazin. I never use these colors but somehow in mid February something snapped in my brain and I had enough of the drab winter. So flowers it has been and dreams of gardens. Something new for me to explore in paint. Which is good. I hate rehashing too much and well, it is good to move on. But this one is where it all started. And it became my blog header too!
The word for the day is ... public speaking ... ok, it is two words, I was asked to do it this morning for the Leadership Seacoast group of 25 movers and shakers of the area... I had to follow three amazing speakers - (powerhsouse performing arts people) . They were Executive Director Patrica Lynch from the Music Hall, Peter Hamlin from the Stone Church of Newmarket and Anthony Ejarquc from The Governor's Inn. Man. It was TOUGH. But thanks to all who said I did well. I am going back to my studio now for a little visual quiet and peace. phew. What was I doing there?

This painting is so incredibly vibrant. The complementary colours just bounce off each other! And 2.5" deep? That's deep!
Those poppies are so lovely. I also like the "Twilight Dreamgarden Series" It looks like you are connecting some serious dots there...Glad your speakig thing was a hit this AM. Sounds a bit grueling. Well done! check out my trunk show debrief, finally up--(lost my camera, briefly)

yes, it is deep, i have them being shot by my professional photographer in two weeks, so when i repost them, they will show the sides too...
wild to paint on!
You are so bold with color, I just love it! I must have a fear of colors sometimes, I seem to stay muted in my artwork. You inspire me!
This is beautiful!
oh susan... i think i'm in love with that painting. there's something so magical and beautiful and mystical and free about poppies... and exactly that is what you've captured in the essence of this painting!
[ang making the promise to herself, that one day, a susan painting too will be on her walls... ]

me.
Again, I love your Poppies series ! :)
Wow! This is an amazing work of art. I love these colors. Very striking.
These poppies are so full of life, the reds are stunning. Hmm a Susan original would look fab in my house, I think... :)
